The value-added quirk
Just about everyone agrees that Google is the biggest entreprenuerial success story of the last five years, but for some reason there's a sharp division between those who think Google is as great as it is because of its oddities, and those who think it succeeds despite them. I'm firmly in the first camp -- as, I suspect, is anyone who owns their stock or uses their services. A company that openly flouts established ways of running a business and mocks standard office behavior is the kind of company that will come up with something new and different. And a company that manages a little tweak here and a little adjustment there will get us... Windows 95. And Windows 98. And, just to bravely add another pair of digits, Windows 2000.
